Ellora caves are the world known architectural masterpieces of the bygone era. The caves were built during 5th century AD and 10th century AD by Rashtrakutas. The magnificence and splendor of the Ellora caves makes them to the UNESCO World's heritage list. The caves are located 30 kms away from the city of Aurangabad and serve as one of the best tourist destinations around the city. There are a total of 34 caves that represent the three different religions of the world - Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

The rock cut caves comprise of temples and monasteries. Out of all the caves at Ellora there are twelve Buddhist Caves, seventeen Hindu caves and 5 Jain caves. The Hindu caves from cave number 1-12 comprise of Temples that depicts Lord Shiva and other Hindi Deities while the other Buddhist caves from cave number 13-29 include monasteries. The magnificent Kailasa Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is situated inside cave 16. The temple is one of the world’s massive sculpture and was carved out of a rock with the help of 7000 laborers and took nearly 150 years to complete. Ellora caves are jewels of the past, so splendid and so lordly that it catches world's attention every now and then.
