Paithan is a small village located 56 kms south of Aurangabad. The village is famous for its 20 centuries old skill of weaving 6 yards long silk brocade sarees. The Paithani silk sarees are so famous and sought after that people from all across the country come to Aurangabad to buy them. The fine silk woven with Zari and brocade give a spectacular look to the Paithani sarees. Paithan was once the capital of Satvahanas in the 2nd century BC. It is believed that Satvahanas were great admirer of arts and crafts and were the one who gave birth to the art of Paithani Saree making. In the past eras the Paithani sarees were merchandised to many countries in return for gold and precious stones. Paithan is a famous tourist excursion near Aurangabad as people from all nooks and corners of the country come to visit this enchanting town to see and believe the hand weaving and making of the renowned sarees.
